At 5:00AM (0900 UTC), the center of Category-4 Hurricane Sam was located about 800 miles southeast of St. Maarten.
Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is expected during the next day or two.
Hurricane Sam is currently moving towards the northwest at 8 mph and is expected to continue that motion for the next few days.
On its forecast track, Hurricane Sam is predicted to pass about 345 miles northeast at its closest point to St. Maarten on late Wednesday to early Thursday.
