Dutch Marine On Trial For Sexually Harassing Three Male Colleges Aboard Karl Doorman In Sint Maarten. The naval officer from Schoonebeek is on trial because he came on to three male colleagues inadvertently. The supply and support vessel had been in the Caribbean for over a month at the time of the incidents for corona rescue, especially on St. Maarten. On Monday morning the substantive treatment of the case will start in the court in Arnhem.

After the sex incident on the Sr. Ms. Karel Doorman, all military personnel involved remained on board and at work. According to the Royal Netherlands Navy, this was decided because the officer against whom the complaint was made was essential for the progress of the mission. A few days later he decided to leave.

Sexual abuse and transgressive behavior is extremely sensitive to the armed forces and certainly to the navy. In 2006, an affair on frigate Tjerk Hiddes caused a great public outcry. A young female sailor reported sexual assault and rape.

Sexual misconduct, she says, is commonplace. At the time, the criminal court considered only military assault – the woman was hung outside the ship against her will – and imposed conditional community service orders. But the image of the armed forces had already suffered a major dent by then.

Fourth claim of sexual offence on board Dutch navy ship Karel Doorman.
Once again, someone filed a report against the naval officer of HNLMS Karel Doorman because of a sexual incident that allegedly occurred on board. Three other sailors already filed charges last week.

This was confirmed by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee following a report in De Telegraaf. No further announcements will be made about the report. ‘We’re investigating the case further,’ said a spokesperson.

According to sources of De Telegraaf, the incident occurred during a drink on Friday 8 May. He would have stroked a male colleague over the back and then buttocks. This happened in the presence of witnesses. The sources were also the ones that came forward about the reports being filed to the police earlier.

The supply and support vessel Karel Doorman has been in the Caribbean for corona assistance since early last month.
