Boat sinks after departure from Aruba, seven dead
ORANJESTAD – A boat sailing under the Venezuelan flag sank on Saturday after leaving the port of Aruba. Seven of the eight crew members drowned, various Colombian media report.
The only survivor is 34-year-old Juan Carlos Sanchez, the captain of the
Arcängel Miquel, as the boat was called.
The ship had left the port of Aruba and was on its way to Santa Marta in Colombia. Off Puerto Estrella, the crew was surprised by a high wave, which caused the ship to list and sank. The seven crew members who died were below deck and could not escape.
