On Friday, May 7, 2021, 15 police officers from the Class of 2015 attended their graduation ceremon. It was held in front of the Police Head Quarters in Philipsburg.

The graduation was attended to by His Excellency the Governor of Sint Maarten Drs. Eugene Holiday. PM Silveria Jacobs, Justice Minister Anna Richardson and Chief Prosecutor Mirjam Mol, were also present. Various government officials, department heads, representatives of several local associations & communities, colleagues, family members & Friends were present.

Police Chief Carl John, the police management team and representatives from the Nederlandse Politie Academy (N.P.A.) congratulated all of the graduates. Their academic achievements especially were noted. Sincere thanks was expressed to the family members for the support they have given them while they were in training.

KPSM continues to train its personnel to the highest level possible. This gives the foundation on which to build a carreer offering the highest level of professional police service. Two classes at this moment are presently going through the same intense training. One class will be doing the end of their final exams of this year. A Safer Community, Together!

In April 2021, discussions were opened by the Minister of Justice, Ms. Anna E. Richardson. Community council representatives were present. It was in regards to the safety and security of community residents.

These discussions were held to identify issues that are being experienced in the neighborhoods and to find ways in which they can be addressed.

Minister Richardson has expressed the commitment and service of the Ministry of Justice in supporting the communities in combatting issues being faced.

Based Representatives reports, of the various districts, Minister Richardson gained a better understanding of the different issues.

The discussions madt will require the efforts of all agencies which falls under the Ministry of Justice to tackle the diverse issues.

A wide range of issues and criminal activities occuring in and around neighborhoods are all classified by jurisdiction.

Which is what makes it essential for residents to know which authorities to contact for a specific responsibilities.

Richardson proposed the implementation of an awareness campaign to properly inform residents on how to address issues faced.

Also, how they too can contribute to a safer community.

“Community safety cannot be achieved by an independent effort by its residents nor by the authorities. We must begin to work together, not as separate communities but as one; including the support of the Ministry of Justice.

Steps to a safer community:

  • Keep close contact with your community council
  • Report crimes to the right authorities
  • Raise community awareness
  • Familiarize yourself with your neighbors
  • Join neighborhood watch
  • Notify neighbors of any suspicious activities
  • Know and contact your Community Police Officer (CPO).
